The Balto® Neck is a compression brace designed to help pets recovering from hernias and vertebral injuries, as well as manage neurological issues associated with the neck and upper spine. This rigid compression brace, made with non-neoprene material, provides tremendous stability and support to your dog's neck; limiting undesirable movements. The brace can comfortably be used alongside the dog's personal harness for daily walks for support while maintaining an active lifestyle.

Brace Applications:
  • Sprains and strains of the neck resulting from whiplash, injury, and sudden movements
  • Pre- and Post-surgical support
  • Chronic neck pain management
  • Protection of vertebral injuries
  • Protection of canine cervical hernias
Brace Features:
  • One wide collar that can be placed on two different ways to best support the neck. The extended side can support below the neck, or in the opposite position, down the spine to help support flexion/extension of the neck
  • The brace can also be used for conditions such as arthritis and arthrosis.
    • Compression helps increase blood flow in the affected area, which helps reduce stiffness, pain, and inflammation
  • Adjustable straps ensure an excellent fit

Comes in sizes xx-small through x-large. To find the best size for your pet, visit the sizing chart here.

Non-neoprene

All Balto® braces are made from high-quality materials, not neoprene, which is known to: collect bacteria, provide inadequate support, and wear down quickly. A variety of sizes ensure a secure fit. No pinching straps.

Recommended for all ages unless otherwise advised by veterinarians. Apply brace for balanced increments of time, if appropriate, for pets under the age of 2 to prevent possible growth disturbances.

How to Apply Brace

Step 1
Prepare the brace by opening the straps and applying it to your dog or cat's neck (Fig. 1).

  • Which orientation does the brace go if my dog has atlantoaxial luxation?
    • The extended side of the brace goes on the underside of the neck, facing the chest. This is to prevent flexion – a forward bending of the neck.
  • Is this brace water resistant?
    • Yes, this brace does not retain water, but when wet it is best to air dry to protect pet’s skin and coats.
  • Is the brace a soft or hard shell?
    • While the brace is lightly padded on the inside for comfort, the brace itself is a hard shell to provide compression and restrict harsh movements. Compression is helpful in reducing associated pain and inflammation.

  • Allow up to two weeks for your pet to fully accept the brace
  • Wear the brace for 30 minutes a day, increasing 30 minutes each day after, for up to 12 hours
  • Consult your veterinarian for specific instructions on when to wear your brace
  • Remove the brace when your animal sleeps at night
  • Inspect your pet for signs of skin irritation. If any are present, contact your veterinarian
  • In addition to wiping the brace clean, keep skin and fur that comes into contact with the brace clean
  • Inspect your brace regularly for any damage

A clean brace not only prevents infections, irritation, and a stinky smell; but it also allows your brace to last longer. To help support the longevity of your bracing device, here are some of our tips on how to properly clean your orthopedic bracing:

  1. Remove as much hair as possible from any Velcro® frequently to prevent compaction.
  2. Use lint roller or lightly adhesive tape to remove hair from the material of the brace.
  3. By hand, use warm water and a gentle cleansing soap to remove any stains and odors.
  4. Rinse soap thoroughly from the brace
  5. Hang to dry. Once the brace is completely dry, it is ready for use!

A life saver

When my puppy broke his neck this brace was the only option for recovery. Surgery wasn't a option, Medicine and rest was prescribed. This brace helped more than i can describe.

Great brace

The brace is excellent quality. Very well made. As good as human braces. Got the XS but had to send it back. The only reason my little girl couldn’t wear it was because her neck was too short and it would have gone over her ears. She is sort of between the XXS and the XS. Also, her neck got much better so I didn’t have to order the XXS. BUT, if I ever have to get her a brace again (crossed fingers that I won’t have to) I will DEFINITELY get it from Balto!!!

Husky Broken Neck!

My Husky Puppy at five months old ran into a hurricane proof sliding glass door at dusk and severed her head from her body between C1 and C2....it was totally severed and dislocated except the skin, muscles and spinal column was intact. My board certificated neurosurgeon vet put her back together with a metal plate, screws, cadaver dog graft and cement. She was in a body cast from the top of her head to mid back for 12 weeks with cast changes every 2 - 3 weeks. Once the body cast was removed then I purchase a NECK Brace from Balto that she wore for another 5 months with intermittent breaks as time went by. She wore it for another 6 months while riding in her seat belt in the car for added protection and stability. She could eat, drink, sleep and even run and play. You had to be careful how hot it was in the house and make sure her ears where pulled forward and not folded back behind the brace. To this day she loves her Brace and will she will squell and ask me to put on her BALTO NECK Brace when their is a high pressure storm or if her neck hurts. Then she will bark once and ask me to take it off too. I love the Balto neck brace and it was worth every penny I spent on it. When the fabric started to wear off a bit I just reinforced it with white duck tape. This is a worth while product and I highly recommend it, my Vet approved it and it works.

Neck brace

Far superior to traditional cone collars. Much more comfortable for the dog - no running into doorways, etc. with that plastic cone. Stays put and for the most part restricts movement, letting hot spot heal although my dog manages to occasionally maneuver himself so he can reach/worry that spot.

Saved us from surgery!

Our toy Maltese was not able to walk or stand and seemed destined for surgery, but the vet suggested we try to stabilize her neck first and she is like a new puppy again! Very grateful for this product!
