The Balto® Body Lift Dog Harness is a veterinarian-approved, full-body assistive brace designed to support dogs with mobility challenges, spinal issues, or hind end weakness. Whether your dog is recovering from surgery, coping with aging, or living with a neurological condition like IVDD or degenerative myelopathy, this brace provides balanced support to keep them mobile, comfortable, and safe.

Made with breathable, non-neoprene material, the Balto® Body Lift delivers compression that helps improve circulation, reduce stiffness, and ease pain. Two removable rigid splints run along the sides of the brace to add structural support for the spine, ideal for pets with neurological disease. For milder conditions like arthritis or inflammation, the brace can be used without splints for softer support.

The harness features height-adjustable handles that allow pet parents to comfortably assist their dog with walking, stairs, or getting into vehicles. The handles are also removable for all-day wear when your dog is resting. Unlike makeshift supports like towels or slings, which can cause abdominal injury to pets and strain for owners; the Balto® Body Lift is specifically designed to safely distribute weight across the body.

Why pet parents choose the Balto® Body Lift:
  • Supports pets with neurological conditions such as IVDD, DM, CVI, or Spondylosis Deformans
  • Provides safe, ergonomic lifting assistance for pets with paralysis, partial paralysis, or lameness
  • Aids post-surgical recovery and complements physical therapy, acupuncture, or hydrotherapy
  • Helps with mobility training, including for pets adjusting after limb loss
  • Customizable comfort and support with removable splints, adjustable straps, and washable design

Available in X-Small through X-Large sizes, the Balto® Body Lift is also widely used in veterinary clinics for overweight patients or for safely transporting pets from car to clinic. This brace is a trusted, versatile tool that gives your dog - and you - the confidence and support needed for everyday life.

Step 5
Once the brace is in place, it’s time to attach the handles. To position the handles, locate the dog’s center of gravity so that when you lift the dog, it stays level and doesn’t tilt forward or back (Fig. 8).

  • Is this brace recommended for dogs with IVDD?
    • Yes! This brace comes with two removable splints that run laterally alongside the body; this provides great structural support.
  • How does this brace work to support IVDD?
    • This brace works by compressing the length of the spinal column.
  • How do I apply the brace?
    • We have step by step instructions on how to apply the brace on our YouTube channel. If you need further assistance reach out to our customer service team.
  • Can my dog stay in this brace all day or do I need to take it off?

A clean brace not only prevents infections, irritation, and a stinky smell; but it also allows your brace to last longer. To help support the longevity of your bracing device, here are some of our tips on how to properly clean your orthopedic bracing:

  1. Remove as much hair as possible from any Velcro® frequently to prevent compaction.
  2. Use lint roller or lightly adhesive tape to remove hair from the material of the brace.
  3. By hand, use warm water and a gentle cleansing soap to remove any stains and odors.
  4. Rinse soap thoroughly from the brace
  5. Hang to dry. Once the brace is completely dry, it is ready for use!

Great after Neck Surgery

Bought this harness for my dog post neck surgery. It worked wonders immediately post op to move him and then to help him moving the first few days post op. It was easy to get on and off and comfortable for him to wear

Drug-Free way to improve quality of life

Working on a vet clinic, I've seen countless older dogs suffer from hind-end pain and weakness. Anti-inflammatories and pain meds can help with the former, but for my 14 year-old lab, there was no medication to keep her from slipping and falling, especially on smooth floors. This harness has been a game-changer for us. And if Beauty could speak for herself, she would agree wholeheartedly - she seems far-less anxious to get up and go on walks.
