The Balto® Life Dog Hip Dysplasia Brace is a veterinarian-approved solution designed to relieve pain and provide extra support for dogs with hip dysplasia, arthritis, or hind end weakness. Whether your pet is recovering from injury, living with a chronic condition, or just slowing down with age, this brace offers stability to the hips and hind end while still allowing natural movement and normal elimination. It also gives pet parents the option to assist their dog with gentle lifting and support when needed.
Made from breathable, non-neoprene material, the Balto® Life applies compression that helps improve circulation, reduce stiffness, and ease pain. The brace includes two removable hip padding discs that add compression and stiffness directly to the hips for targeted relief. These pads can be removed for comfort when less support is needed, but are highly recommended for best results.

Step 1
Prepare the brace by opening the straps. Open the brace and lay it flat while guiding your dog's legs into the designated openings (Fig. 1).Step 2
Pull the brace up around the dog. Position the brace by lining up the hips with the padded discs (Fig. 2).Step 3
Secure all the Velcro straps by passing them through the buckles. Tightly close with the Velcro straps (Fig. 3).Step 4
The straps are adjustable: Remove the Velcro ends and cut the strap to the desired length. Reapply the Velcro ends and tightly close with the Velcro strap to ensure the brace is stable (Fig. 4).Step 5
The straps should be close to the back and should not be around the brace. It is important for the brace to be tightly closed (Fig. 5).Step 6
Attach the adjustable handle and adjust as needed (Fig. 6).- I’m in between sizes, which do I pick?
- When in between sizes we always recommend sizing down so that the brace provides adequate compression.
- The brace seems to slide down his back, how can I adjust it?
- The straps across the back end can be crossed before buckling, this can help hold the brace up a bit better. If you are still having issues, it could be due to size. Reach out to our customer service team so we can assist!
- Does the brace need to be used with the handles?
- No, the handles are there to be used if needed.
- Can my dog stay in this brace all day or do I need to take it off?
- We recommended that when introducing a brace you follow our recommended schedule of brace time and checking of the skin. After your pet has been fully introduced to the brace, you can remove the straps when they are resting and add when they need assistance walking.
- Can my dog go to the bathroom in this brace?
- Yes! There are features added to the brace to ensure that they can go to the restroom without having to remove the brace.
- Allow up to two weeks for your pet to fully accept the brace
- Wear the brace for 30 minutes a day, increasing 30 minutes each day after, for up to 12 hours
- Consult your veterinarian for specific instructions on when to wear your brace
- Remove the brace when your animal sleeps at night
