The Balto® Flexor Dog Hock Brace is a veterinarian-approved solution designed for dogs recovering from serious hock injuries or post-surgical rehabilitation. Built with an adjustable hinge system, the Flexor allows you and your veterinarian to customize how much your dog’s hock can move during healing. The joint can be completely immobilized after surgery or set to allow controlled flexion and extension as your dog regains strength; helping ensure proper healing while reducing strain and stress on the injured joint.

Made from breathable, non-neoprene material, the Balto® Flexor is comfortable for long-term wear, washable for easy care, and trusted by veterinarians for its advanced design. Two lightweight aluminum splints stabilize the hock, while adjustable straps and padding provide a secure, custom fit. This brace is an excellent choice for dogs who need more than basic support during recovery, especially in severe injuries or rehabilitation plans.

Why pet parents choose the Balto® Flexor:
  • Advanced post-surgical support: Provides stabilization after procedures involving the hock joint.
  • Customizable healing: Adjustable hinge locks allow full immobilization or controlled range of motion during rehab.
  • Pain and instability relief: Helps manage acute hock pain or congenital joint instability.
  • Secure, tailored fit: Length- and width-adjustable padding ensures comfort and stability for a wide range of dogs.

The Balto® Flexor can also be used as a conservative alternative for dogs who are not candidates for surgery, or to provide extra support for the opposite limb when one leg is recovering. Available in sizes X-Small/Small through X-Large/XX-Large, the brace is designed to fit securely for breeds of many shapes and sizes. (Note: For dogs over 50 kg / 110 lbs., the brace should not be extended more than 1 cm on either end to maintain proper alignment.)

With the Balto® Flexor, your dog receives the highest level of hock protection and recovery support, helping them heal safely and return to a more active, comfortable life.

  • To which degree setting should my brace be set to?
    • For full immobilization of the joint, we recommend setting at the 30° flexion and the 45° extension. For a reduced range of movement for the joint, we recommend setting at the 30° flexion and the 15° extension. For other degrees, or more custom settings we recommend working with your veterinarian. Watch our video on how to adjust the degrees.
  • How tight do screws need to be?
    • Until you meet resistance then stop, don't keep going. Continuing to tighten after feeling resistance can cause the metal to wear excessively over time; leading the brace to not work as intended.
  • Which is better, the Hock brace or the Flexor brace?
    • Choosing between the options all depends on your doggo’s needs. The Flexor brace is typically used post-surgery or for more advanced injuries because it allows you to slowly reintroduce mobility as they heal. You can adjust the settings as needed. The Hock brace provides compressive and structural support.

A clean brace not only prevents infections, irritation, and a stinky smell; but it also allows your brace to last longer. To help support the longevity of your bracing device, here are some of our tips on how to properly clean your orthopedic bracing:

  1. Remove as much hair as possible from any Velcro® frequently to prevent compaction.
  2. Use lint roller or lightly adhesive tape to remove hair from the material of the brace.
  3. By hand, use warm water and a gentle cleansing soap to remove any stains and odors.
  4. Rinse soap thoroughly from the brace
  5. Hang to dry. Once the brace is completely dry, it is ready for use!

Alternative to surgery

Vet recommended these braces for swollen/inflammed Achilles. Seems to be helping. One problem is the braces slip down all the time. I put on a wide piece of Velcro on the top portion, soft side against the dog. Hasn’t slipped since! I would recommend these!

Seems to work well. It kept sliding down the leg. I put a wide piece of velcro on the inner top part, soft side against the leg, hasn’t slid down since!

Alternative to surgery

Asked my vet why the dog was still limping. She thinks a torn ligament. I live in a small town and it will cost thousands by the time I travel for an orthepedic recommendation, CAT scan and possible surgery. The vet recommended the Balto Flexor and gave me the information to order one. It came quickly with an instruction booklet. We are using it now for when the dog and I go for walks. His lameness has improved significantly even though he doesn't like the brace. I have great hopes this will help his body repair the damage because this guy is too young to be crippled up. Thank you.
