The Balto® Life relieves pain associated with any degree of hip dysplasia, and allows optional mobility assistance from pet parents. This canine hip dysplasia support brace is a great solution for dogs suffering from limited mobility and motor difficulties following injury, disease, or aging. This breathable compression harness lift, made with non-neoprene material, provides stability and support to your dog's hips without compromising natural movement. The brace also allows for normal elimination. This hind-end brace is an excellent option for dogs in need of additional hip support while maintaining an active lifestyle.
Brace Applications:
Alternative to the use of a towel or other household item which is known to cause abdominal injury to pets, or strain to the user supporting
Post-surgical mobility support
Complementary treatment option to physical therapy – can be used in combination with hydrotherapy and acupuncture
Brace Features:
Two removable hip padding discs; can be placed on either side of the hips to provide added compression/ stiffness
The brace can also be used without additional hip padding to adjust for comfort (highly recommended to use padding for best results)
Compression helps increase blood flow in the affected area, which helps reduce stiffness, pain, and inflammation
Adjustable straps can be lengthened or shortened on the leg to ensure an excellent fit around the hind end
Height-adjustable handles allow a comfortable extension from the brace to the user’s hands.
Removeable handles for all-day use; even when immobile/resting
All Balto® braces are made from high-quality materials, not neoprene, which is known to: collect bacteria, provide inadequate support, and wear down quickly. A variety of sizes ensure a secure fit. No pinching straps.
Recommended for all ages unless otherwise advised by veterinarians. Apply brace for balanced increments of time, if appropriate, for pets under the age of 2 to prevent possible growth disturbances.
How to Apply Brace
Step 1
Prepare the brace by opening the straps. Open the brace and lay it flat while guiding your dog's legs into the designated openings (Fig. 1).
Step 2
Pull the brace up around the dog. Position the brace by lining up the hips with the padded discs (Fig. 2).
Step 3
Secure all the Velcro straps by passing them through the buckles. Tightly close with the Velcro straps (Fig. 3).
Step 4
The straps are adjustable: Remove the Velcro ends and cut the strap to the desired length. Reapply the Velcro ends and tightly close with the Velcro strap to ensure the brace is stable (Fig. 4).
Step 5
The straps should be close to the back and should not be around the brace. It is important for the brace to be tightly closed (Fig. 5).
Step 6
Attach the adjustable handle and adjust as needed (Fig. 6).
I’m in between sizes, which do I pick?
When in between sizes we always recommend sizing down so that the brace provides adequate compression.
The brace seems to slide down his back, how can I adjust it?
The straps across the back end can be crossed before buckling, this can help hold the brace up a bit better. If you are still having issues, it could be due to size. Reach out to our customer service team so we can assist!
Does the brace need to be used with the handles?
No, the handles are there to be used if needed.
Can my dog stay in this brace all day or do I need to take it off?
We recommended that when introducing a brace you follow our recommended schedule of brace time and checking of the skin. After your pet has been fully introduced to the brace, you can remove the straps when they are resting and add when they need assistance walking.
Can my dog go to the bathroom in this brace?
Yes! There are features added to the brace to ensure that they can go to the restroom without having to remove the brace.
Allow up to two weeks for your pet to fully accept the brace
Wear the brace for 30 minutes a day, increasing 30 minutes each day after, for up to 12 hours
Consult your veterinarian for specific instructions on when to wear your brace
Remove the brace when your animal sleeps at night
Inspect your pet for signs of skin irritation. If any are present, contact your veterinarian
In addition to wiping the brace clean, keep skin and fur that comes into contact with the brace clean
Inspect your brace regularly for any damage
Need Replacement Parts? The following parts are available for this brace:
A clean brace not only prevents infections, irritation, and a stinky smell; but it also allows your brace to last longer. To help support the longevity of your bracing device, here are some of our tips on how to properly clean your orthopedic bracing:
Remove as much hair as possible from any Velcro® frequently to prevent compaction.
Use lint roller or lightly adhesive tape to remove hair from the material of the brace.
By hand, use warm water and a gentle cleansing soap to remove any stains and odors.
Rinse soap thoroughly from the brace
Hang to dry. Once the brace is completely dry, it is ready for use!

Excellent way to help your dog
I loved the durability and strength of this product. I would recommend a larger size than small. I have a 90 german shepherd who is 10 months old and the large was way too small for him. I measured him and it suggested large but I would suggest a larger than smaller. Because you can't return this, I now have to get another one. However it is worth it because I feel this is really going to help him.
