The Balto® Neck Eco is a veterinarian-approved, comfortable alternative to the traditional plastic “cone of shame.” Designed to prevent biting, licking, and scratching at wounds or healing sites, this breathable, non-neoprene collar gives your dog protection without the stress of a bulky cone. Unlike rigid Elizabethan collars, the Balto® Neck Eco allows for unobstructed vision and a more natural daily routine, helping your pet feel calmer and more at ease during recovery.
This neck collar limits neck extension to reduce self-harming behaviors and protect sensitive areas of the body such as surgical sites, hot spots, and allergy flares (note: not suitable for protecting paws, ears, tail, or eyes). It can be comfortably worn with your dog’s harness, making it practical for both indoor rest and daily walks.
- Why pet parents choose the Balto® Neck Eco:
- Protects healing areas from licking, biting, or scratching
- A stress-free alternative to rigid e-collars, with full, unobstructed vision
- Supports wound and bandage protection, reducing risk of irritation or infection
- Dual-position collar for body-only coverage to suit your dog’s needs
- Comfortable, washable design made with breathable materials and adjustable straps
Available in XX-Small through X-Large sizes (not recommended for sighthounds or bulldogs due to anatomical differences), it’s a smart, gentle way to keep your dog safe during recovery while maintaining an active lifestyle.

Step 1
Prepare the brace by opening the straps and applying it to your dog or cat's neck (Fig. 1).Step 2
Tightly close with the Velcro straps (Fig. 2).- Does this e-collar alternative have a hard surface?
- The Eco e-collar is durable with a soft shell, making it easy to clean and effective in providing protective coverage of the body.
- My dog has a wound on his tail or lower legs/paws, would this brace protect that spot?
- No, the brace only protects healing sites located on the body. Since this cone alternative does not have the “walls” of a normal cone, it is less effective in protecting extremities far from the body.
- My dog is getting fixed, and they freak out with the traditional e-collar, would this help?
- Yes! Most dogs fear the traditional Elizabethan cone because it blocks their peripheral vision. That is why we have created a more comfortable alternative!
- My dog suffered a neck injury. Will this help?
- No, this is not a brace. For neck injury support, you will want to look at the rigid Neck brace.
- Allow up to two weeks for your pet to fully accept the brace
- Wear the brace for 30 minutes a day, increasing 30 minutes each day after, for up to 12 hours
- Consult your veterinarian for specific instructions on when to wear your brace
- Remove the brace when your animal sleeps at night
- Inspect your pet for signs of skin irritation. If any are present, contact your veterinarian
- In addition to wiping the brace clean, keep skin and fur that comes into contact with the brace clean
- Inspect your brace regularly for any damage
A clean brace not only prevents infections, irritation, and a stinky smell; but it also allows your brace to last longer. To help support the longevity of your bracing device, here are some of our tips on how to properly clean your orthopedic bracing:
- Remove as much hair as possible from any Velcro® frequently to prevent compaction.
- Use lint roller or lightly adhesive tape to remove hair from the material of the brace.
- By hand, use warm water and a gentle cleansing soap to remove any stains and odors.
- Rinse soap thoroughly from the brace
- Hang to dry. Once the brace is completely dry, it is ready for use!
