How to Apply Brace
Step 1
Prepare the brace by opening the straps and position the brace on the metacarpal pad of the leg. The phalanges must be free to move (Fig. 1).
Step 2
Hold the brace firmly against your dog or cat's leg (Fig. 2).
Step 3
Tightly close with the Velcro straps (starting with the top straps). The brace should not be loose or twist on the leg (Fig. 3).
Step 4
Tightly close the bottom strap using the Velcro strap (Fig. 4).
NOTE: It is not necessary for the brace to overlap.
The brace keeps sliding off, what do I do?
Signs that your brace might be too large include “gapping” between the brace and your pet, sliding, and twisting of the brace. Typically hair is not an issue, but in some breeds with thick coats, a trim around where the brace may help. There is no need to shave your pet for supportive results. Reach out to our friendly customer service team for assistance!
Can I adjust the brace?
Yes, the splint is slightly malleable which you can bend as needed. The bend on the splint should follow the bend where the leg meets the bottom of your pet’s paw.
Is it okay to use the brace outdoors?
Yes, it is recommended to wear the brace with a shoe or thick sock so that it protects the bottom material of the brace.
To prolong the durability of the brace we recommend covering the brace with a shoe or sock.
Allow up to two weeks for your pet to fully accept the brace
Wear the brace for 30 minutes a day, increasing 30 minutes each day after, for up to 12 hours
Consult your veterinarian for specific instructions on when to wear your brace
Remove the brace when your animal sleeps at night
Inspect your pet for signs of skin irritation. If any are present, contact your veterinarian
In addition to wiping the brace clean, keep skin and fur that comes into contact with the brace clean
Inspect your brace regularly for any damage
A clean brace not only prevents infections, irritation, and a stinky smell; but it also allows your brace to last longer. To help support the longevity of your bracing device, here are some of our tips on how to properly clean your orthopedic bracing:
Remove as much hair as possible from any Velcro® frequently to prevent compaction.
Use lint roller or lightly adhesive tape to remove hair from the material of the brace.
By hand, use warm water and a gentle cleansing soap to remove any stains and odors.
Rinse soap thoroughly from the brace
Hang to dry. Once the brace is completely dry, it is ready for use!

Balto splint for my baby girl-Cabela
Nervous about using. She looks uncomfortable with it on. I have to get in a routine to put it on every day. She appears sore after wearing balto splint. I am sure that happens. Haven't had it long enough to get it down to a science. Thanks for asking. Try try again

Best Splint for My Dog!
I was so glad to find this splint for my dog! Balto is the ONLY company that makes something like this. My 12 year old Border Collie went through hell during a failed surgery to fix a fracture. His lower leg is now compromised due to an infection after the surgery and no can guarantee that it can be fixed again. I didn't want him to suffer any more, so I started looking for braces/splints. After trying many, many options, I came upon the Balto Splint. It's the best thing I have found for him. Thank you for creating this.

Seems to help
My pup has been using it with a booty Dora couple of weeks now during the day. Mostly he avoids walking on it when he has it on he does use his paw as his booty gets dirty. When I take it off he limps much less now but on my vet’s advice I will continue to use it.
