Help Your Dog Stay Active and Comfortable – Now With Support for Both Back Legs

The Balto® Hock Brace Bundle includes two braces, one for each of your dog’s back ankle area (called the hock). This is a great option for dogs who have injuries in both hocks, arthritis in both joints, or for dogs who are putting extra pressure on the uninjured leg while one side heals.

These soft, breathable braces provide gentle support without limiting your dog’s ability to walk, run, or play. Whether your dog needs help recovering or just a bit of extra stability, this set is designed to keep them comfortable and moving.

When to Use This Brace:

  • For sprains or strains around the hock or Achilles tendon
  • Before surgery, to stabilize the joint and prevent it from worsening
  • After surgery, to help your dog heal
  • To support soft tissue injuries in the ankle area
  • To help manage long-term hock pain
  • Alongside physical therapy, hydrotherapy, or acupuncture
  • To protect healthy joints and prevent future injuries
  • To keep wounds and bandages safe from licking, biting, or rubbing

Brace Features:

  • Three lightweight metal splints: two on the sides to limit side-to-side movement, and one in front that can be gently shaped for a better fit
  • Can also be worn without splints for dogs with arthritis or joint stiffness
  • Gentle compression boosts blood flow, helping reduce pain, swelling, and stiffness
  • Adjustable straps for a secure, comfortable fit on any size leg

Comes in sizes xx-small through x-large, for left and right orientation. To find the best size for your pet, visit the sizing chart here.

Non-neoprene

All Balto® braces are made from high-quality materials, not neoprene, which is known to: collect bacteria, provide inadequate support, and wear down quickly. A variety of sizes ensure a secure fit. No pinching straps.

Recommended for all ages unless otherwise advised by veterinarians. Apply brace for balanced increments of time, if appropriate, for pets under the age of 2 to prevent possible growth disturbances.

  • I am not sure how to apply the brace correctly.
    • Watch our video on how to properly size and place this brace. The brace should be placed through the front side of the foot. The angle of the splint should follow the angle of the bend at the hock. Reach out if you need further assistance.
  • The brace keeps sliding off, what do I do?
    • Signs that your brace might be too large include “gapping” between the brace and your pet, sliding, and twisting of the brace. Typically hair is not an issue, but in some breeds with thick coats, a trim around where the brace may help. There is no need to shave your pet for supportive results. Reach out to our friendly customer service team for assistance!

  • Allow up to two weeks for your pet to fully accept the brace
  • Wear the brace for 30 minutes a day, increasing 30 minutes each day after, for up to 12 hours
  • Consult your veterinarian for specific instructions on when to wear your brace
  • Remove the brace when your animal sleeps at night
  • Inspect your pet for signs of skin irritation. If any are present, contact your veterinarian
  • In addition to wiping the brace clean, keep skin and fur that comes into contact with the brace clean
  • Inspect your brace regularly for any damage

A clean brace not only prevents infections, irritation, and a stinky smell; but it also allows your brace to last longer. To help support the longevity of your bracing device, here are some of our tips on how to properly clean your orthopedic bracing:

  1. Remove as much hair as possible from any Velcro® frequently to prevent compaction.
  2. Use lint roller or lightly adhesive tape to remove hair from the material of the brace.
  3. By hand, use warm water and a gentle cleansing soap to remove any stains and odors.
  4. Rinse soap thoroughly from the brace
  5. Hang to dry. Once the brace is completely dry, it is ready for use!
