The Balto® Hock addresses hock pain, lameness and neuromuscular problems. This canine hock brace is a great solution for dogs suffering from limited mobility following injuries to the hock/Achilles tendon. This breathable compression wrap, made with non-neoprene material, provides stability and support to your dog's rear legs without compromising natural movement. This hock brace is an excellent option for dogs in need of additional support while maintaining an active lifestyle.

Brace Applications:
  • Sprains and strains of the hock/Achilles tendon
  • Post-surgical support
  • Structural support for soft tissue injuries to the hock joint
  • Chronic hock pain management
  • Complementary treatment option to physical therapy – can be used in combination with hydrotherapy and acupuncture
  • This brace can be used on healthy joints, muscles and ligaments to prevent injury and provide structural support.
  • Wound management; protection of bandages from biting, licking, gravity and friction
Brace Features:
  • Three angled airplane aluminum splints; two splints aid in restricting the lateral movement, and a third in the front is slightly malleable for a more custom fit.
  • The brace can also be used without splints for conditions such as arthritis and arthrosis.
    • Compression helps increase blood flow in the affected area, which helps reduce stiffness, pain, and inflammation
  • Adjustable upper and lower padding straps can be lengthened or shortened on the leg to ensure an excellent fit

Comes in sizes x-small through x-large. To find the best size for your pet, visit the sizing chart here.

Non-neoprene

All Balto® braces are made from high-quality materials, not neoprene, which is known to: collect bacteria, provide inadequate support, and wear down quickly. A variety of sizes ensure a secure fit. No pinching straps.

Recommended for all ages unless otherwise advised by veterinarians. Apply brace for balanced increments of time, if appropriate, for pets under the age of 2 to prevent possible growth disturbances.

  • I am not sure how to apply the brace correctly.
    • Watch our video on how to properly size and place this brace. The brace should be placed through the front side of the foot. The angle of the splint should follow the angle of the bend at the hock. Reach out if you need further assistance.
  • The brace keeps sliding off, what do I do?
    • Signs that your brace might be too large include “gapping” between the brace and your pet, sliding, and twisting of the brace. Typically hair is not an issue, but in some breeds with thick coats, a trim around where the brace may help. There is no need to shave your pet for supportive results. • Allow up to two weeks for your pet to fully accept the brace
  • Wear the brace for 30 minutes a day, increasing 30 minutes each day after, for up to 12 hours
  • Consult your veterinarian for specific instructions on when to wear your brace
  • Remove the brace when your animal sleeps at night
  • Inspect your pet for signs of skin irritation. If any are present, contact your veterinarian
  • In addition to wiping the brace clean, keep skin and fur that comes into contact with the brace clean
  • Inspect your brace regularly for any damage

A clean brace not only prevents infections, irritation, and a stinky smell; but it also allows your brace to last longer. To help support the longevity of your bracing device, here are some of our tips on how to properly clean your orthopedic bracing:

  1. Remove as much hair as possible from any Velcro® frequently to prevent compaction.
  2. Use lint roller or lightly adhesive tape to remove hair from the material of the brace.
  3. By hand, use warm water and a gentle cleansing soap to remove any stains and odors.
  4. Rinse soap thoroughly from the brace
  5. Hang to dry. Once the brace is completely dry, it is ready for use!

Great support!

Our 14 year old Standard Schnauzer injured her right rear leg. The surgeon didn’t think it required surgery at her advanced age. He suggested and measured her for the Balto Hock brace. We ordered it and received it in a timely manner. The instructions were easy to follow, and after a few days to adjust, she was using it confidently! A great peace of mind!

Didn't Fit

Too thick and stiff for a Chihuahua mix. Top part barely fit around his thigh and cut into the tendon just above the hock joint. Bottom was all the way down against and cutting into his foot.

Awesome Brace

My Great Pyrenees is hyper extending his tarsas. We had to have a custom boot made to help with this but it is very big, bulky, and rubs the skin raw. I bought this brace to try and it works just as well, if not better, than the custom boot!
