The Balto® Neck Feline is a compression brace designed to help cats recovering from hernias and vertebral injuries, as well as manage neurological issues associated with the neck and upper spine. This rigid compression brace, made with non-neoprene material, provides tremendous stability and support to your cat’s neck; limiting undesirable movements. The brace can comfortably be used alongside the cat’s personal collar for daily support.

BRACE APPLICATIONS

  • Sprains and strains of the neck resulting from whiplash, injury, and sudden movements
  • Pre- and Post-surgical support
  • Chronic neck pain management
  • Protection of vertebral injuries
  • Protection of feline cervical hernias

BRACE FEATURES

  • One wide collar that can be placed on two different ways to best support the neck. The extended side can support below the neck or in the opposite position (down the spine) to help specifically limit flexion or extension of the neck
  • The brace can also be used for conditions such as arthritis and arthrosis.
    • Compression helps increase blood flow in the affected area, which helps reduce stiffness, pain, and inflammation
  • Adjustable straps ensure an excellent fit

Learn How Properly Fit the Balto Neck to Your Cat

All Balto® braces are made from high-quality materials, not neoprene - which has been known to collect bacteria, provide inadequate support, and wear down quickly. A variety of sizes ensure a secure fit. No pinching straps.

For indoor-outdoor cats, please remove the brace prior to going outside.

Recommended for all ages unless otherwise advised by veterinarians. Apply brace for balanced increments of time, if appropriate, for pets under the age of 2 to prevent possible growth disturbances.

How to Apply Brace

Step 1
Prepare the brace by opening the straps and applying it to your dog or cat's neck (Fig. 1).

  • How tight should I fit the brace?
    • The brace should be snug but comfortable. Make sure it is not too tight, that can cause discomfort and other issues.
  • What is the difference between the Rigid Neck Brace and the Neck Eco?
    • Both braces are durable to restrict neck movement. However, the Neck Rigid brace is built to apply compression to the neck. Compression reduces stiffness, pain, and inflammation. The Eco is not a brace, it is a cat cone alternative.
  • Should my outdoor cat be unsupervised in the brace?
    • It is recommended to only have your outdoor cat wear the brace while you can see them. The outdoors have several other safety factors, and it can be more harmful to the cat to keep it on unsupervised vs taking it off while they roam.

  • Allow up to two weeks for your pet to fully accept the brace
  • Wear the brace for 30 minutes a day, increasing 30 minutes each day after, for up to 12 hours
  • Consult your veterinarian for specific instructions on when to wear your brace
  • Remove the brace when your animal sleeps at night
  • Inspect your pet for signs of skin irritation. If any are present, contact your veterinarian
  • In addition to wiping the brace clean, keep skin and fur that comes into contact with the brace clean
  • Inspect your brace regularly for any damage

A clean brace not only prevents infections, irritation, and a stinky smell; but it also allows your brace to last longer. To help support the longevity of your bracing device, here are some of our tips on how to properly clean your orthopedic bracing:

  1. Remove as much hair as possible from any Velcro® frequently to prevent compaction.
  2. Use lint roller or lightly adhesive tape to remove hair from the material of the brace.
  3. By hand, use warm water and a gentle cleansing soap to remove any stains and odors.
  4. Rinse soap thoroughly from the brace
  5. Hang to dry. Once the brace is completely dry, it is ready for use!
